Late at night, when her husband and in laws were asleep,
she gathered the courage to come out of the kitchen where she had locked
herself for 2 days, reached towards her room and silently picked up her phone,
dialled a number and controlled her tears, getting no response from the other
side, she dialled again this time unable
to control herself she burst into tears as she heard the voice of her father
saying what happened child? Are you alright?
Sobbing and shivering she told her father what she was
going through all this time, 4 months of her marriage has been turned into the
worst nightmare of her life. The day she
left her home, life has not been the same, Father’s princess has become a
slave, a slave who has no rights, who cannot demand anything, who works
endlessly day and night without any complaints or arguments.
She remembers how she used to live in her home where she
was treated with utmost care, love and her family members doted her. She
deserved all this affection as she was worthy of it. She was that perfect girl
who excelled in studies, respected her elders and had no vices, no boyfriend,
no drinking, no demands, just the girl every parents wish for.
Now the times have
changed so drastically that it is so difficult for her to handle herself. When
she looks at herself in the mirror she cannot believe that she is the same
cheerful person, her body covered with marks and bruises all over as if someone
had painted red and blue lines on her skin. She is a victim of domestic violence
and abuse by her husband and her in laws.
She told everything
to her father, how the first time her husband threatened her for argumenting with him, from that day the beating and abusing was a regular task for her
husband. She was just silently tolerating all this in a hope that one day it
would stop and her husband would understand the pain that she bears every day.
She even told her father that she was under house arrest for a week as she
asked her husband if she could work as a teacher in the nearby school, he got
so furious that he punched her right at her face and threatened her to not to
think of working out again. She is a
woman and she should not step out of home were his words when he locked her in
the room.
Not only this but
there were many instances in which she was beaten, abused and even burned for
raising her voice. Her father terrified by all this told her to stop crying and
said that they will take her home
.
.
But is this the
solution to this problem? What was her fault? Why was she subjected to so much
torture and humiliation? She married the man whom her parents chose, the man
who was projected as the most eligible bachelor by her parents turned out to be
a monster for her. Or it was her parent’s fault who chose the wrong person?
No, the fault is completely of the people who have such
mentality that women are a slave, that women are made only for doing their
household works and are just a toy for their entertainment and fulfilment of
their desires.
And when a strong, independent, courageous woman tries to
change their view, they try to suppress her by assaulting her both physically
and mentally, they try to harass her, subdue her. Those who fightback against
these monsters emerge as triumphant. However still in the world there are so
many women who are a victim of domestic violence and are quiet about it. They
are afraid of raising their voice due to the pressure of society or family.
Some stay silent because they fear that this may harm the reputation of their
family or because of the future of their children.
But this has to change. It is high time that those women
start thinking about themselves. It is said that God only helps those who help
themselves. Therefore they have to become their own hero, their own saviour,
then only someone could help them.
Time to raise your voice. Be your own hero. Break those
shackles and fly without fear.
